One by one Barack Obama is alienating our closest allies.
First, he snubbed Israel by making his phone call to the leader of the Palestinian authority his first official act as President on the morning of January 21. In that phone call he conveyed to the enemy of Israel that he could count on 'U.S. support for Palestinian goals.'
This is not the only time he has brushed off Israel.
His overtures toward Hamas and Iran's extremist Islamist government are but further indications of his deep disdain for the Jewish state. Anyone who claims we can have a relationship based upon 'mutual respect' with a barbaric regime such as Iran is totally bereft of the most basic human values.
Then, Obama proceeds to snub Great Britain, not once, but twice by removing the Churchill bust from the Oval Office and by giving the Prime Minister the gift that is only fit for a head of state--a collection of American movies. How 'appropriate.'
As if this is not enough, we get the news today that Obama has snubbed yet another major U.S. ally--France.
It seems that Obama sent an official letter to former French President (and note, not the current President) Jacques Chirac stating that 'I am looking forward to working with you in our common goals.'
Just what goals would Obama have in common with Jacques Chirac? Chirac took every opportunity to denigrate, criticize, and oppose U.S. initiatives in the war on terror after 9/11. His anti-American sentiments are well-known throughout France, which is one reason he is a very unpopular figure in French politics.
And we must not forget that it was Chirac who made it possible for Saddam Hussein to obtain his first nuclear reactor for Iraq in an under-the-table nuke-for-oil agreement with the former Iraqi dictator.
The word is that current French President Nicolas Sarkozy is outraged by the Obama letter to Chirac.
And he has a right to be.
But the overriding question that arises in all of this is, why would a President snub our allies and befriend terrorist regimes? Is this an indication that the U.S. has elected a man to the highest office in the land who is unable to grasp very elementary principles of foreign policy?
Or is there a more sinister explanation for the bizarre behavior?
Either way, the actions of Barack Obama are placing the nation at great peril.

President Obama is doing a great job. His foreign policy skills are head and shoulders above the former president's abilities.
Indeed, most of our allies must be relieved and pleased in the change of leadership. The US has gone from having the class dunce as leader to having the brightest guy in the room as leader. The change is like a breath of fresh air. President Obama is on his way to repair the damage left by the Bush administration.
It is concerning when some conservatives denigrate and misrepresent our great President. In this time of crisis, a crisis brought about by the previous Republican administration, we should all act with virtue and patriotism, and support our President.
I will point out that Portland ignores several specific criticisms of Obama foreign policy actions and offers, as a rebuttal, his criticism of Bush actions, offering only gross generalizations devoid of any specifics.
Why is it so difficult for Obama supporters or Bush critics to debate on the substance? They offer platitudes and assertions as though they were sound, logical arguments instead of the shallow reactions that they are in reality.
Intellectual and logical debate is healthy and begins by listening, recognizing and acknowledging the substance offered by the other party (in this case Anthony Martin), then responding in kind, again acknowledging the substance of the other parties comments and offering a substantive rebuttal and based on logical arguments supported by relevant facts and examples.
People like Portland ought to try it if they wish to have a real debate.
What should we expect from Obama? In his book 'The Audacity of Hope' he wrote "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction." Everything he has done so far is consistant with this statement.
I find it interesting that the "defense" of Obama is "He is better than Bush." I hold very little positive for GWB, but that does NOT give BHO a free pass. He has made error after error on items small and large. The economy is in a wreack not because of BHO or GWB directly, but Obama is compounding the problem with his interventions. Or foreign policy has been flawed for generations, but between Hillary and BHO our "leadership" looks like grade schoolers. We send messages to the wrong people, cannot translate in Russian, and refuse to acknowledge that there is right and wrong, good and evil. We are no longer on a slippery slope, but falling. May lady liberty regain her footing.

P.S.- No one will garner respect or admiration from me based on title or job. I care only what you do. BHO has not earned the right to be "my" President yet, only the President of MY counrty. Of, by, AND for the people, not the other way around.
Unbelievable! I am so tired of the "he started it" argument and giving BHO a pass because he is more liked by "the people" than Bush.
The facts have been clear. Watch the news. Read a newspaper from the UK or Russia and see what those leaders are saying about your beloved Obama.
What is happening to our country is exactly what true conservatives have been warning since last summer. Bush was NOT our model president for the last 2 yrs of his administration, but BHO is FAR worse for the future of our nation.

I will simply reiterate that President Obama is doing a great job.
Bush is relevant because he all but ruined our country after eight years of failed Republican leadership. It is indisputable that our current problems have been created by the incompetent and intellectually bankrupt Republican leadership.
President Obama and the new administration are cleaning up the mess left behind.
Swearing and name calling will not change the facts. Indeed, such bluster simply indicates a failure of reason.
