Banned under government healthcare--a warning

At a dinner I attended recently I was cornered by a good friend who put her finger in my face and said, 'You have got to tell people how dangerous this healthcare bill in Congress really is!'

(AP Photo/Jessica Hill)

I reminded her that I have written and spoken extensively about it, to which she replied, 'But I bet you haven't told them THIS, because you don't know about it.  In fact, very few know about it.'

Intrigued, I listened as she told me about an organization to which she belonged, a healthcare organization designed for Christians who have been deemed by the insurance industry as 'uninsurable,' or who have been dropped by insurance carriers for one reason or another and cannot find a company that will insure them.

The organization also exists to provide reimbursement for medical fees incurred by the uninsured or those who cannot afford to pay for their own healthcare needs.

Here's how it works.  For a low monthly fee individuals and families can join the organization.  Then, when medical expenses are incurred, members post the tests, procedures, surgeries--and their costs--online in a secure forum so that other members can see them.

At that point, members who are able will agree, as part of the terms of membership, to cover the expenses of their fellow members.  Even those who are considered 'poor' are expected to pay for someone else's care, within their means to do so, during the course of a year.  Members get to choose which tests, procedures, and surgeries to which they wish to contribute.

Let's say, for example, you are a member of this organization and have very limited means.  Obviously you cannot afford to pay for someone's heart-valve replacement, but together with others you can.  In addition, you may choose to cover in full a fellow member's chest  x-ray.

Some members have the means to pay for the entire cost of, say, gall bladder surgery--one member covering the cost of another member's surgery.

At that point I interrupted my friend to ask if there are members whose medical expenses go uncovered.

She answered, 'Not a single one.  In fact,' she said, 'You know about all the health problems and surgeries I've had, and so far, every single penny of the costs of my care, treatment, tests, procedures, and surgeries have been paid in full by the members of this organization.'

'That's wonderful,' I said, 'But what has this got to do with the dreadful warning you want me to tell people about?'

'Well,' she responded, 'These 2 bills before Congress, you know, the one in the House and the one in the Senate, BAN such organizations.  If this government healthcare plan passes, it will wipe out my organization.  We were informed about this by the organizational leadership this past week.'

'But why do they want to do that?' I asked.

Peering at me incredulously, she said, 'You know the reason.  They want to force everybody onto the government-run plan, to which they euphemistically refer as the "public option."'

'Now,' she said, pointing that finger at me again, 'You get out there and warn the people about what Congress and the President are really up to!'

I have often stated in the midst of this healthcare scheme that the entire plan is not about healthcare or insurance at all.  It is about control.  And in order for government to control anything, it has to engage in a direct, frontal attack on the liberties of the citizens.

This woman at the dinner has given us in stark terms exactly what's at stake.  The 'healthcare reform' bills before Congress are a direct attack on the liberties of the citizens.  Once it passes, even a Christian organization that has an ingenious method of paying for everyone's care will be BANNED, OUTLAWED. obliterated from existence.

Why?

Because the whole thing is NOT about healthcare for everybody.  If that were the case, then Congress and the President would be highlighting such organizations as stellar examples of what the American people can do when our creativity and ingenuity is set free from government interference.  ALL healthcare costs are paid for by the members.  Isn't that what our illustrious 'representatives' and 'President' claim they want?

Look at actions and pay no attention to words, especially from this President and his gang of thugs in Congress.  It is clear by their actions that it is not healthcare they are concerned about.  It is control.  They don't want you as a citizen to get all of your healthcare costs reimbursed unless government does it, because with a massive, centralized government bureaucracy in place to manage healthcare, 'big brother' will know all about you, your habits, your health issues, and every other bit of personal information right down to your DNA samples.

This is the ultimate goal.  And that is why this wonderful Christian organization will be forced to shut down.

So there you have it.  You have been duly warned.  Now, what are you going to do about it?

OK, I don't doubt this, but as a "journalist" shouldn't you have researched it and brought facts to the table to back up the claim? Is this just more of your "creativity"? Exactly what provision in the bill would ban this orginazation? What is the name of this orginazation? Did you speak to anyone else in the organization as a follow-up? By simply parroting this woman's claim you don't win anyone over to our side of the arguement. You're only preaching to the choir. Research and investigate, Mr. Martin. It would help build credibility. Of course I understand as you have stated in the past, "creativity" is your main goal.

aaahh Smokin...I love the way Liberals start Mud Slinging when they are angry...Do we need a time out now, or maybe a few anger management classes?? My Boots are now on Smokin...let your Liberal Slinging begin. LOL - My bet is you ask this questions to enough of our Elected Officials you could get many different answers. I'm not a liberal. I'm about as conservative as they come on most issues, and I'm steadfastly against government run healthcare. In any form. I'm just pointing out that you can't just throw accusations out without backing them up. It hurts the cause. We all need to speak boldly, but stick to the facts and provide proof of every arguement. When you just throw out a story like this it lacks credibilty, and liberals can use that to make those of us who are opposed to gov't run healthcare look like liars who are trying to use fear to scare people into opposing it as well.

This is sad and wrong, but wholly consistent with what we know about this "healthcare" bill.

Our elected representatives don't listen to us. They're too busy being Washington elitists ... and having thier arms twisted behind their backs by thugs like Rahm Emanuel. The status quo is quid pro quo.

As for President Obama, he does not care about Americans except to the extent he can use them to gain even more power and control.

It's over, y'all. All over except the crying.

Actually, Smokin,' what you are doing is typical troll behavior...constantly bickering about one thing or another. If it's not 'facts' it's minor points of grammar. YOU are the issue here, not me. YOU act in a manner that makes it clear you are a stalking troll, here to do nothing but cause trouble. I highly doubt your conservative credentials, or else you would be attacking the real enemy, not me.

You had best be winding up this protracted attempt to discredit me, or else. We can find out who you and make sure you are banned from commenting. I am very close to deleting every single thing you say as it is.

Wow. Threats to expose my identity and silence me. That's very American. Ronald Reagan would be proud. Not. Quetioning my "conservative credentials", nice. How about I beieve the federal gov't should be downsized by about 90%. All entitilement programs should be defunded and stopped, immediately. Dissolve the Dept. of Education. Privatize Social Security. Impose term limits. End corporate donations to political campaigns. Barack Obama is the most dangerous threat to the future of American freedom that we have ever faced. I could go on. Good enough for you? All I'm asking you is to stick to the facts and back them up. Be professional. Otherwise you hurt the cause and give ammunition to the enemy.
