The South Carolina State Elections Commission confirms that Jim Pratt is the Republican Primary winner over Nancy Harrelson for U. S. House of Representatives District 6. The official recount has Pratt winning by 111 votes (13,689 to 13,578). This was a one vote difference from the votes counted in the June 22nd Primary run-off. According to Chris Whitmire, SC State Elections Commission Public Information Officer, the recount was certified at 9:30 this morning.

State law requires that any election within one percent must trigger the recount.

Pratt will go up against Democratic power house Rep. James Clyburn. Clyburn has been representing District 6 since 1992 and is currently the House Majority Whip.

In any other year, Clyburn would be considered the probable winner. However, with the high disapproval ratings of both Congress and the President, as well as the anti-incumbent fever coursing through the state, Rep. Clyburn will have a tough race on his hands come November.
