Obama left of Chavez?

In one of Hugo Chavez’s customary anti-capitalist, pro-socialist speeches Chavez spoke on Tuesday about Washington’s takeover of General Motors corp. and called Obama his ‘comrade.’ The U.S. government will control a 60 percent stake in the 100-year old company.

With his Cheshire-cat-grin, Chavez joked: “Hey, Obama has just nationalized nothing more and nothing less than General Motors. Comrade Obama! Fidel, careful or we are going to end up to his right.”

Chavez is notorious for his program of expanding government and socialist control in Venezuela. He has nationalized many of Venezuela’s private sectors, including the country’s profitable oil project.

Chavez has been a harsh critic of America, but has toned down his rhetoric since Obama entered office.

Hailey - I think Obama is headed in that direction. The real problem is that I don't think the public gets stirred up when comparisons with people like Chavez are made. Americans as a whole are probably not that upset even if Obama is a socialist...its just an intangible concept to them. The general population cannot connect the dots between Obama's policies and how they will ultimately affect America. This is why we have him as president now - form over substance.

We have always chosen form over substance, nothing exemplifies that more than W.Bush. Now, there was Real form over substance. His policies certainly didn't 'affect' us for the good.
