From the parking lot you hear the screams of fear and joy – and rising up from the once empty field is a city of brightly colored tents and carnival rides. A ritual of summer is the county fair – an event that celebrates the best of local products and people. Arts and crafts, petting zoos, food of all kinds, concerts, and science exhibits are just a few things you will find at a typical county fair.
Fairs have existed for as long as man has engaged in commerce – it is a way for vendors to show their products, food, and services. But it is also a way to enjoy life – to join with others in a festive environment and to be inspired by new things to see and do.
Part of conscious living and loving is to deliberately seek out those experiences that enhance your life. Inspiration should be sought – seeing what other people have done or can do sets off a trigger of joy – joy for the accomplishment of others, and joy at the idea that you, too, can do something special and interesting.
County fairs are especially important because it is local talent that is being showcased – and it is amazing what a wide variety of talent there is in your section of the world. During this Fourth of July holiday, take the time to visit your local county fair.
The 2009 Marin County Fair celebrates being the “greenest county fair on Earth” from July 1st to July 5th, with many exhibits and events, including nightly concerts and fireworks.
