Health care bill in Senate coma

Health care bill in Senate coma

By Dave Keller

Phoenix --Triumph embraced political reality as health care legislation was declared D.O.A by Dr. No, the United States Senates all around arch villain to America’s middle class and veterans, better known as Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn he is an actual physician when he isn’t speechifying or attending meetings of the infamous C street religious cult.
For those unfamiliar with the C street family, it’s a “church” and members include dozens of powerful republican and democratic politicians, high ranking military officers and corporate Ceo’s. The precepts of Dr No’s fellowship include allowing members to have sex with children, venerate Hitler and Pol Pot and they insist the true teachings of Jesus were revealed to its founder. Sadly nary a single democrat with any real power to speak of bothered to dispute his diagnosis. If health care reform isn’t actually dead, it is on life support and fading quickly. Ever the pragmatist, I am the first to concede Republicans with good reason murmur of sighting that elusive path out of the political wastelands in 2010.
Polls indicate in generic congressional match up’s, democrats have in the course of a few short months managed to squander away a ten point advantage and currently trail the GOP 44 to 48 percent if the elections were held today. The President’s personal popularity remains high but Americans are beginning to question if democratic dominance of both congress and the White house remain in their best interest as we seek the way ahead, should this trend continue, come November of 2010, the losses may be greater than anticipated.

In e-mails to party leaders, I doubt my voice is alone in attempting to remind them, it will always be the economy stupid. Perhaps if democrats had focused on job creation before promoting healthcare, we might have retained the New Jersey governor’s office. More than a tenth of the American work force is out of work. It seems spending a trillion bucks on stimulating the economy is a great idea provided you make job creation priority one as Governor elect Bob for jobs did when he opened up some industrial strength whup ass and poured it all over the elusion democrats could phone in the campaign    .

So come a few weeks or months, a bill party spin doctors will doubtless claim is ground breaking legislation shall emerge, but save that possibility of a rare political miracle and yes if anyone can Obama can, any hope middle and working class Americans will actually be able to obtain affordable health insurance slowly slips away. Of course liberal, progressive and moderate Senators could stage a leadership coup, force the old guard out and use parliamentary rules to allow a straight up or down majority vote, but it would come at a steep price, several Senators in swing districts would lose their re-election bids come November. Barack Obama once claimed health care reform so important an issue he was willing to be a one term President if he could manage passage, we can only hope one or two others in the senate share his conviction. That’s my view yours may be different. have a comment or complaint feel free to drop a note psburton@bloggernations.com
