With the main topic in Washington presently being the debt ceiling the people of this country are unsure what will happen next, and what effect it will have on their lives.
The Republicans and Democrats are fighting this out with the financial lives of Americans hanging in the balance. The Republicans are fighting for drastic cuts in the budget and the Democrats are fighting to raise taxes. Regardless of which side wins the people will feel it, but which people?
The reality is that most likely no matter what they do the American people as a whole will be affected by it. So, what do the people think?
According to a Pew Research Poll over 50% of the people, regardless of party affiliation, believe that the entitlement programs need to be “completely rebuilt or have major changes” which tells me that the budget cuts on this particular issue would likely be the best. Part of the problem many people have with the entitlement programs is that American citizens who pay taxes are not the only ones who benefit from these programs, with 71% of illegals using one or more.
In that same poll, the people over 60%, regardless of party affiliation, believe that the tax system, education system, and illegal immigration laws all need to be “completely rebuilt or have major changes”.
In other words, it appears that the majority of Americans get that the real problems with the economy comes from root causes such as the cost of illegal immigrants, the bloated budgets of schools, and the insane tax laws.
So, will Washington listen to the wishes of the people and demand the entitlement programs no longer go to illegal immigrants? Or that the federal government gets out of the school system? Or that the tax laws are simplified and rewritten? Probably not.
What do we do about this? Should we bombard them with letters, emails, faxes, and phone calls? Of course, but remember who voted with the people and who voted against us in November and cast your vote accordingly.
The only real solution for the problem in Washington is to replace those who don't serve the people with people who will do the job right.
