Stone Temple Pilots, one of the most talented, yet troubled groups to come out of the 90's, put together a very successful reunion tour in 2008. The band seemed quick to call the reunion tour just that, nothing more.
For the beginning of the tour, the band claimed that the tour was simply a reunion tour to get together and play some of their hit songs for old-times sake and to give fans another shot at seeing the band. Midway through the tour, however, the band announced that they were writing new tunes for an upcoming album.
The album was rumored to be released in late 2009, but with a few delays, the album has now been announced to have an official release date of May 25th, 2010, and STP has gone ahead and announced the spring dates of their 2010 tour. There are sure to be more dates that will extend through the summer after the album releases.
These dates are notable, as they represent the first time in around a decade that Stone Temple Pilots have played outside of North America, due to singer Scott Weiland's probationary travel restrictions.
There are also reports that Stone Temple Pilots are planning on putting together their own touring music festival in the same style as Mötley Crüe's Crüe Fest. The report states that Weiland stated that the touring festival will take place after the European dates.
"We'll be playing South by Southwest in March, with a few more dates," said Weiland. Then we go to Europe to play all the big festivals in the early summer [and] come back [to the US] with our own festival we're putting together."
