The Iveys: El Paso band keeps it in the family

The Iveys

Over in El Paso there's a brother/sister band making harmonizing music similar in  style to acts like Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon and Crosby, Stills and Nash. They're called The Iveys. What is interesting about the self-titled, independently released,  debut album out earlier this year is their sound brings to mind those artists just mentioned above even though these musicians are all too young to have been around during that classic rock heyday.

Apparently,  The Iveys musical sensabilities were influenced heavily by their father's taste in music. “Growing up we listened to all of our dad’s old records, from The Beatles to the Rolling Stones, Queen to The Eagles. It really influenced our songwriting in a positive way.”

The Iveys are comprised of; Arlen (guitar/vocals), Jessica (keyboards/vocals) and Jillian  (keyboards/vocals). Each are talented singers in their own right, but  collectively,  their singing is something special. Addionally, producer, Ettore Grenci brought in a group of  talented Italian studio musicians who were able to back the the band in way that highlights those vocal harmonies featured on the album.

Right from the opening track, Leave it to Love,  it is apparent The Iveys were intent on keeping the focus on the strength of their singing. Going the Right Way and Whispered Worlds are two tracks on the CD that highlight  lush vocal harmonies. For an avid music lover, the songs evoke nostalgic feelings  from hearing bands like Fleetwood Mac on the radio. Although the sound is not new, it's still a pleasureable listen . There's also some positive, light-hearted pop elements to the songwriting that leaves a smile on your face.

The band's experience at Sonic Ranch Recording Studios with Grenci producing led to some exceptionally high qualty recordings that highlight Arlen's songwriting  and the girls' proficiency on the keyboards. If you enjoy listening to classic rock sounds like the Eagles or The Beatles then you should give The Iveys a listen. It seems like they're working hard to pay proper homage to their idols.

Currently The Iveys are home in El Paso resting after a short summer tour.
