The Arc Angels closed out the Solar Powered Concert Series on Wednesday June 24, 2009 to an enthusiastic crowd, welcoming their boys who have been recording in London and touring, having reunited after 15 years. Openers for Eric Clapton on his European tour during the spring and currently on a summer U.S. tour, they are also producing a new album and a live DVD. Co-frontmen Charlie Sexton, with his boyish good looks and charm, and Doyle Bramhall II, with the serious magic his fingers draw out of a guitar, kept the ladies of the crowd screaming for more.
Opening the show was roots-rock Shurman, who relocated to Austin from Los Angeles in January 2009. Shurman, featuring frontman Aaron Beavers, has gained a substantial support base through the Sin City Social Club, a "renegade collective" of musicians and fans of Americana music with a presence in Austin, Los Angeles and Nashville. Shurman puts on a satisfying, high-energy show that never fails to end with its members soaked in sweat.
The Solar Powered Concert Series, produced by Marsha Milam Music, has featured completely solar-powered stages. In Wednesday's Texas heat there was plenty of power driving the show.
