Slightly Stoopid and Snoop Dogg showing love
Slightly Stoopid and Snoop Dogg have kicked off one of most anticipated summer tours of the year. They are gracing the Shoreline Amphitheater this Friday, July 24, alongside Stephen Marley and Mickey Avalon. It is a must see if you have yet to experience any of the artists that are on the lineup. I have seen Snoop and Slightly Stoopid both individually but I’m definitely not going to miss the opportunity to witness the walls that divide the two genres come crashing down with every g-funk bass line and with every reggae percussion hit. With every joint passed and every smile shared, the barriers between the two types of music with be taken down and replaced by a sense of unification through love in music.
Snoop said in an interview, “It is so relevant for us to have this tour because people in the music industry don’t classify this style of music with that style of music. If its good, its good, and we like each other, and look forward to working with each other.” He describes his hopes for the tour when he states, “This tour is going to show that there is no prejudice, that there is no division in music.”
Even the supporting groups deserve their own hype. Grammy Award winning Stephen Marley, the second son of legendary Bob Marley, is taking time out of his busy behind the scenes efforts with his brother and various other projects to perform his contemporary “Bristol” reggae with hopes of reminding us that life is truly irie.
Mickey Avalon, the shock-trip-hop artist coming out of the grungy, star-studded Hollywood streets, is making his first major concert appearance. Normally he is creating chaos on stage, as well everywhere else he goes, with his partners in crime Simon Rex, (yes the ex-MTV VJ Simon Rex) also known as Dirt Nasty, and Andre Legacy aka Armen Melik. Together they form The Dyslexic Speedreaders. Currently the trio is taking time apart to promote their solo careers and are touring rigorously.
