Today Amazon.com announced their new Kindle DX e-book reader. On the front page of their website, Amazon has begun to take pre-orders for their update to the current Kindle DX. The Kindle DX was a larger version of the Kindle II reader which has been very successful.
The new Kindle DX will have a 9.7 inch screen, a miniature keyboard, and wireless access. Not only will it run Kindle e-books from Amazon.com but also third party files including pdf documents. Some of the new features include greater screen contrast, better pdf zooming functions, better font displays, and even social network features.
The original Kindle DX was also had a larger screen that made it better for viewing full pages of documents or even magazine articles, unlike the Kindle II. Amazon.com is further developing a web browser for the Kindle DX as well.
Perhaps it will be inevitable that many will compare the new Kindle DX to the Apple iPad. There are some very basic differences including the types of screen technology and software used in each device. While the iPad uses a stronger processor and has a color LED screen, the Kindle DX has liquid paper screen technology and a real, if not small, keyboard. Potential customers in Baltimore and nationwide will have to decide what their primary purpose will be to make a choice between the two devices.
The Amazon Kindle DX will be available on July 7 for $379.00 US dollars.
