
HP printer sales fell in the 4th Qtr
HP has released its earnings for the fourth quarter of 2009. Their PC, software, and printer markets took heavier than expected revenue losses. PC systems revenue fell by 12% with a 8% loss in laptop revenues while desktop revenues fell by 16%. Their software revenues fell by 16% and their printer revenues fell by 15%. Like many companies, the HP is experiencing losses due to both the economic downturn and increased competition from many sectors.
HP has faced increasing pressure from Dell, Acer, and other manufacters in the PC market of late. Other companies become more competitive in traditional strong market areas for HP. Even its printing ink markets have face more competition from cheaper third party ink manufacturers.
However, all there are strong points in HP's fourth quarter earnings report. HP has had strong revenue gains in their technology servies by 8% and financial sevices grew by 5%. Its PC department, or Personal Systems Group, showed an increase in sales of new PCs by 8% while showing increasing gains in Enteprise level system sales.
