Watch the 2016 Olympic announcement in Chicago Friday

The countdown to the final decision of which city will host  the 2016 Olympics has begun, with the announcement to be made on Friday, October 2, 2009. The delegation of influential representatives of the U.S. in Copenhagen right now include U.S. President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and talk show titan Oprah Winfrey. Watch for the announcement on television news, or join one of the crowds at one of the watching stations, where people will gather in community to hear whether the Olympics will be held in Chicago.

The great cities competing for the 2016 Olympic games include Chicago Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.

The announcement will be made just before noon on Friday. According to WGN News, the watching stations include:

  • Rufino Tamayo Charter School on the Southwest Side: The viewing party will begin at 10;30 am at 5135 S. California Ave..
  • Washington Park on the South Side: Washington Park is a proposed site of the temporary Olympic Stadium. The UniverSoul Circus will have its normal morning show from 10:30 am to 1 M, in the big top. The show will pause to watch the announcement on JumboTrons.
  • Downtown Naperville: Naperville, in the southwest suburbs, will have a street festival from 11:00 AM to1:pm along Chicago Avenue.
  • Concordia University Chicago in River Forest: The viewing party starts at 10:30 am in the North Geiseman Gym. 7400 Augusta St., River Forest, IL
  • Silver Cross Field in Joliet: The Joliet Jackhammers will open the stadium at 11:00 AM.
