Yesterday morning a convoy of food trucks decended on the South End to participate in the first annual food truck festival. Joining them were some of the regular food vendors that participate in the weekly SOWA Market, plus other food vendors looking to take advantage of a good opportunity to introduce their products Boston's foodies.
Among some of the regulars were Samira's Homemade with their hummus and pita bread, and Yummy Mummy Brownies which were sadly sold out by the time I got there. New comers included The Original Delancey Street Peanut Company, Dave's Cape Cod Smokehouse, and Nantucket Wild Gourmet & Smokehouse.

While Dave's offers both smoked meats and a variety of smoked fish, Nanticket Wild Gourmet only offers smoked wild salmon. The company's new owner Drew Poce himself a fisherman, bought the company in January. The salmon is all wild, and caught by rod and reel only. Drew plans to expand the business to include clams, mussles, etc. with the purchase of an additional smoker which will be located separately from the current one. This is necessary because Nantucket Wild Gourmet smoked salmon is certified kosher and can not be smoked with non-kosher shell fish.
Of course the trucks were the big draw, and there were close to a dozen serving up their specialties. Everything from ribs, to cupcakes, to pickles, to foot long hot dogs. The lines were long and the food looked delicious. Although not offering food this time around, representatives from Roxy's Gourmet Grilled Cheese were there trying to get their name out. They're looking for a location park in downtown Boston and expect to be grilling up sandwiches soon. For now you can find them on Facebook.
If you missed the event don't despair. Some of the products are available in Whole Foods while others are are available online, and the food trucks can be located via Facebook and Twitter
Check out the slide show for more on who was there and what was offered.
