Let's kill off 'Clem' from 'Rose is Rose'

Clem's greed will one day be his downfall

Even though comic strips are usually pretty happy affairs, there's still a little room for something sour.

In the past, we've described how Bucky Katt from "Get Fuzzy" and Jeremy Duncan from "Zits" have gotten on our nerves. In recent days, that award goes to Clem from "Rose is Rose."

Clem does very little in Pat Brady's clever little tale of domestic happiness among Pasquale, Jimbo, and of course, Rose. He only appears, it seems, to serve as sand in the other characters' collective underpants, as it were. Clem's a selfish hog; when there's a new batch of chocolate chip cookies on the table, count on Clem to snag them all. Crafting an arsenal of snowballs? Clem's on hand to use most of them. This week, the kid's been blogging about his hogging exploits. Now that takes chutzpah!

You might say that Clem's just a litlte kid, and little kids often haven't learned to share. I say, fine, but I don't care. Clem's ongoing snoggling of any and all things fun or good makes him a blight on the funnies page. He should be banned.

I'd like to see Rose one day in the not-too-distant future cook up a batch of cookies laden with arsenic or pins, and Clem can die by his own hand, killed, more or less by his own greed.

You don't see too much of that on the comics page, but I'd be willing to slip Mr. Brady a ten-spot if he'd make it happen.

Anyone else want to form a "Kill Clem" fan club?
