COMIC-CON 2010 - RECAP - MARVEL

Iron Man statue at the Marvel booth

Looks to be another MARVELous year for the comic imprint.

Major booth display of their iconic characters. Iron Man - The Armored Avenger. Thor - the Mighty Avenger. Captain America - the First Avenger. They annouced that Hulk would be in the Avenger movie and so it will remain to be seen which adjective would Marvel have for him. The Crazy Avenger? The Bi-Polar Avenger? My guess is something safe like the Incredible Avenger. Would be interesting to see when they announce it.

Brian Michael Bendis and the importance of perseverance

At the panel on Breaking Into Comics the Marvel Way, writers and artists recount their stories of how they got their foot in the industry. Some, like artist Skottie Young, got into it by chance. He was using his friend's booth at a convention and got scouted by C.B. Celbuski. Humberto Ramos did the traditional portfolio review and just kept improving his skills. Of course, the award for perseverance goes to Brian Michael Bendis who tried to get published for 10 years. Eventually, Joe Q gave him an opportunity based on David Mack's recommendation. Now, a prolific comic writer, Brian Michael Bendis illustrates how passion and perseverance can pay off. Not everyone can be an overnight success in the creative industry. The panel pretty much ends with the creatives encouraging fans and aspiring writers and artists to hang in there and keep trying.

Joss Whedon's dream team - Avengers Assemble

Didn't have time to make it to Joe Q's panel - Cup O' Joe. But, the biggest Marvel panel would undoubtably be the Marvel Movie panel. Hall H, normally already very hectic, got even crazier when a stabbing took place. While fans were already enthralled with footages and stars of Captain America and Thor. But then producer Kevin Feige surprised the fans with major star wattage. Making surprise appearances, Samuel L. Jackson introduced the cast for the Avengers movie - Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo (the new Hulk).

This Marvel panel will be the talk of the talk since it's a dream cast for the movie. Director Joss Whedon noted that "I have had this dream all my life and it was not this good. I want to thank Kevin so much for assembling my dream team."
