A "Push" from film to television

Mixed reviewed sci-fi thriller to vie for ratings

The 2009 film based on a U.S. government operation that utilizes agents with psychic-based super-abilities has been part of a project under development for a television series. Summit Entertainment, a studio currently developing Vertigo's Red for film, is one of the partnering companies set to produce  "Push" as a weekly program.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Summit will collaborate with New York headquartered E1 Entertainment to bring the television series to U.S. and U.K. broadcasting.

"The concept behind the 'Push' feature film offers a broad and rich canvas on which to extend the story line and characters introduced in the feature film," said Summit co-chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger in a statement. "The project is also the perfect vehicle to initiate Summit's plans of producing programming for the global TV marketplace."

"X-Men", "X2" and "Watchmen" screenwriter David Hayter will be involved with the telescript. The original David Bourla filmed script was superhero based but not a comic book adaptation. A deal had been struck with Wildstorm Comics, however, to publish a comic book mini-series that served as a prequel device for the movie.

"Push", which has grossed just above $48. U.S. million dollars, starred Djimon Hounsou ("Amistad",
"Never Back Down"), Dakota Fanning ("War of the Worlds", "New Moon"), Ming Na ("ER", "SGU
Stargate Universe"), Joel Gretsch ("The 4400","V") and Camilla Belle ("10,000 B.C."). The central role of Nick Grant was portrayed by Chris Evans ("Sunshine", "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer").

The proposed series, The Hollywood Reporter confirms, will continue the plotline regarding rogue
superpower agents in conflict against their subverted government employers.
