Fox actively developing Daredevil reboot

Fox is actively developing a film reboot of Daredevil

X-Men started the Hollywood craze of developing comic-to-film adaptations, but it was Gotham's Caped Crusader that started the current trend: the much praised/maligned 'reboot.'

Ever since 2005's Batman Begins successful revived a franchise all-but-killed by George Clooney, every studio has attempted to do the same with some once-successful property gathering dust in their vaults (with some, admittedly, not even having time to gather any dust at all).

Well, with the recent acquisition of Marvel by Disney, expect a lot more rebooting of franchises headlined by characters from the House of Mouse Ideas.

In order to keep the film rights to certain characters from reverting back to Marvel/Disney, the studios have to keep actively developing the films... even the ones that don't deserve a sequel.

Cue the reboot.

There has been a lot of reboot talk coming out of Fox lately. First, the quasi-reboot/prequel X-Men: First Class, and then, new talk about rebooting Marvel's First Family, The Fantastic Four.

Now, according to Deadline Hollywood, we can expect to see (bad pun intended) the blind Man Without Fear starting anew in his quest to rid Hell's Kitchen of the criminal element.

Regency is getting the ball rolling on the remake with former News Corp VP Peter Chernin producing. David Scarpa, who scripted The Day The Earth Stood Still, is currently penning a script for the project.

In its defense, the original film wasn't as terrible as the last 7 years have been to it. While it had its weaknesses, it had just as many, if not more strengths. One of the main problems was the final theatrical cut which cut out vital story elements and left gaping plot holes big enough for the Kingpin to walk through. Do yourself a favor and check out the Daredevil Director's Cut, if you already haven't, which presents a much better, more coherent and somewhat grittier, version of the film.
