There are many talented independent comic creators in Denver, the only problem is not many people know about Denver's comic creators. John Porcellino, creator of King-Cat Comics has decided to change that. Porcellino has organized Cowtown Alternative Comix Festival 2009 to showcase the less mainstream comic talents from Denver.
Cowtown Alternative Comix Festival will be featuring many talented comic creators. Featured guests include Noah Van Sciver, Stan Yan and Lonnie Allen of Squidworks, and of course John Porcellino. Many other creators will also be present, displaying their work, and items they have for sale, while trying to spread awareness about Denver's independent comic scene.
Denver has not been known for its comic scene in the past, but recent steps have been made to change that. StarFest brought along ComicFest, giving a mainstream comic event to Colorado. ComicFest was definitely a success, with a good turnout of comic fans. Now it is time to give some publicity to the unsung heroes of comics, those who produce amazing works of art but do not receive the praise they deserve. Hopefully Cowtown Alternative Comic Festival will be able to spark some awareness of and interest in Denver's underground comic scene.
Cowtown Alternative Comic Festival 2009 will be held at the Tattered Cover bookstore, 1628 16th Street on Saturday, June 27th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Stop by and support your local comic creators!
