Captain America #1 by Rob Liefeld
At Chicago Comic-Con, Rob Liefeld was confronted by fan Ryan "Yellow Hat Guy" Coons, who asked Liefeld for an apology for his work on Captain America during the Heroes Reborn storyline. Later, Coons dropped a copy of Stan Lee's and John Romita's book, How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, on Liefeld's table and walked away.
After posting the original story on the Liefeld/Coons controversy, I was contacted by Lee Duhig. Lee is a colorist working on a number of Marvel comics. He’s also one of the hosts of The MIGHTY SABO… and SON!, a teleconference/Internet radio show hosted by TalkShoe.
On the most recent episode, they were able to get both Liefeld and Coons to call in and discuss the incident. The hosts spend about the first hour discussing the controversy, and Coons calls in at the 00:55:00 mark, with Liefeld calling in almost immediately thereafter.
The MIGHTY SABO… and SON!: ROB LIEFELD vs. RYAN COONS: LIVE!
(This is an edited version of the show. In the unedited version, the discussion by the hosts starts at about 02:00:00, and Coons calls in at 03:08:00.)
Please be warned, the language in this conversation is extremely unsafe for work, especially when Scott Kurtz from PVP dials in to give his opinion on the matter and Coons as a person.
It is very interesting listening.

Ha! I hadn't heard about this.
Why specifically Captain America? Shouldn't Liefeld apologize for the entire 1990s? Nah, you know what, thats a bad path to go down. I mean, fans would be demanding apologies left and right. For goshsake, Can you imagine how long Jeph Loeb would be apologizing for Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum???
Also-- the radio has proved my long held belief that 'douchebag' is the most overused term of the last 5 years. And that the most douchebag thing you can do is say 'douchebag'.
I think Liefeld gets unfairly demonized. I mean, we the fans are as much to blame for all that nonsense in the 90s as any of the creators were, because we bought what they were selling.
Got something to say?
