Chris Nolan on Superman 3.0 and Batman 3

"Oh dear. Has my hair handsomely fallen to the side again?"

Reading this bit of news as I listlessly scrolled through bookmarks this morning, I honestly had to check to make sure it wasn't April Fool's Day. That may sounds like a lame gag about the improbability of what I had read, but I think this yakkety fact has the proper mixture of "too obvious to be true" and "if true, why'd it take so long?" for me to be checking if I'm actually two months in the future.

Hey, you may have heard this would come down in January, but better late than never: Christopher Nolan has made a decision regarding his participation in the third Batman picture. His decision? "Sure, why not." Wait, there's more. Not content to be shepherding just one of DC Comics' biggest names to your local kinescope, the lustrously-coiffed Nolan will now also be having a hand in rebooting the Superman movie franchise yet again for the movie studio with the Animaniacs in their water tower.

No one is saying Christopher Nolan is necessarily going to write or direct the brand-new take on Superman that's currently in the early stages of development. Rather, Nolan has been brought in to the project as a sort of mentor, which likely means he'll stay on as executive producer or something in order to have active creative input. You'll be less excited about this when you recall all of the crap films to be promoted as "From Executive Producer Quentin Tarantino," for example. Then again Nolan is a bit of a goldenboy when it comes to the making of the motion pictures. Plus this article at Deadline Hollywood says he was asked aboard Superman 3.0 in a "godfather" capacity - a role that, as far as I know, heretofore never existed behind the camera in the film world. I guess you can do a lot worse when picking a guy to stand next to the little bathtub thing while your movie franchise is being baptized.

As for Batman the Third, I guess David Goyer really did leave his TV show so he could work on writing the next adventure of Patrick Bateman in a rubber suit, as he and Nolan's pretty-boy brother Jonah are now working on a script. So. Which gifted young actor are you going to inadvertently murder this go-around, Nolan and company?
