National headliner Jimmy Dunn returns to Boston this weekend for a night of laughs on November 28 at Mottley’s Comedy Club. Dunn, a Massachusetts native, is not only known for his wide-ranging brand of humor, but is also known to Red Sox nation as the wise-guy voice of the NESN dating show Sox Appeal.
Dunn has also created (and happens to star in) a series of television spots for Olympia Sports, in which he portrays a Sox-loving Boston cab driver. Red Sox fans can look forward to seeing more of Dunn in the future.
“The Olympia Sports campaign that I created (Jimmy Dunn Creative - my new company) will be on again for next year (third season), with some even cooler passengers in the cab!” promises Dunn. “Watch for those when baseball season starts. I also have some other baseball stuff in the works, but for now, it has to remain ‘top secret’.”
With a comedy career spanning over twenty years, Dunn has performed all across the country, headlining venues in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and other major cities. But when it comes to Boston, he just might be a little biased.
“Performing in front of Boston's crowds really is the best. They don't put up with any bull***t. They want it fast and funny,” Dunn notes. “And performing at Mottley's is a blast. It's got that down and dirty comedy club feel to it. Hidden in the basement. Like we are up to something.”
Dunn has appeared on Comedy Central, Jimmy Kimmel Live, CMT's Hit Parade, Inside This Old House, and also had a role in the movie Stuck on You, in which he shared a jail cell with Matt Damon. Fans of Dunn can also look forward to a follow-up to his 2005 book, Funnyball: Observations from a Summer at the Ballpark.
“Yes, I am actually working on another book. But, sorry, it too must remain top secret,” warns Dunn. “Too many secrets, huh? Stay tuned.”
Be sure to catch Jimmy Dunn on November 28 at 8:00 p.m. at Mottley’s Comedy Club, 61 Chatham Street, Boston. For tickets, visit the club's website.
