The 2010 North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival
Since its inception in 2001, the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival has expanded to become one of the largest in the Southern United States. Because of its location, the festival attracts more than its share of performers from the East Coast. More specifically, performers from the Delaware Valley area. This year will be no exception as comedians from Philadelphia, Wilmington and South Jersey will grace the festival's stages for stand-up, sketch and improv.
The first to appear will be the duo of Meg Favreau and Rob Baniewicz in the sketch comedy 'Meg & Rob: We Stole This Baby!'. They'll take the stage on February 6th during the 9:30pm program. A few days later, Philly's Pete Kuempel will perform his stand-up on two nights: Saturday, Feb. 12 during the 11:55pm program and the next night at 7:30 pm.
The bulk of the local performers will appear during the festival's Improvisation week. First up is the duo Red Letters, who perform on Wednesday, February 17th during the 8:00pm block. The next night is Mark Bringhurst and Dan Stabb's office-inspired Improv show CUBED, also appearing in an 8:00pm block of programs. The 10:00pm programming slot features Kristen Schier and Alexis Simpson, among others, in the Real Housewives of... parody group The Real Housewives of Philadelphia.
On Friday, February 19th, regular festival performers Rare Bird Show return for another 30 minutes of laughs during the 10:00pm block. On Saturday, two Philly groups will grace the festival during the 7:00pm block of programming: the long-form duo Mr. Lizard and the short-form group The N Crowd.
Tickets for each block of programming are around $10, but could be more depending on talent and location. More information on the festival and the other performers can be found at the NC Comedy Arts website.
