There's more good news on televson comedies. This time it lands on CBS and Jenna Elfman. The network has ordered five additional episodes of her traditional, half-hour sitcom Accidentally on Purpose.
While AOP had mixed reviews in the beginning it seems to be holding its own; most likely due to its slot smack-dab in the middle of CBS' powerful Monday night comedy lineup. Slotted between perennial Top 20 hits How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men, the show has been retaining nearly all of the HIMYM lead-in. With Rules of Engagement ready to take AOP's place once its season ends, CBS is in a strong position to lead off the week.
The 2009-10 season has been very good to comedies overall, and reverses a trend that began a few years ago when popular comedies like Friends, Frasier and Everybody Loves Raymond ended their runs. Out of the seven comedies that have premiered this season only two -- FOX's Brothers and ABC's Hank, have yet to be picked up for additional episodes.
