That's not all. Not even remotely, slightly or nearly close... Orlando Sketch Fest is back and with big news. Following the success of Orlando Sketch Night, that crew is back at it again. In fact Mike, Imar, Ed, Ryan have recruited a fairly well known sketch comedian into the fold as well. He's a member of the Upright Citizen's Brigade. The Fest is taking playable DVD submissions through October 1st for their next showcase: Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 8:30p at the Gallery at Avalon Island in beautiful downtown Orlando. (Yes, we have to put beautiful downtown Orlando.) And this quick note about the Festival from the team -
"Spread the Word: Help us help sketch comedy! Do you have local comedy friends who might also be interested in submitting their videos? Then stop slacking and tell them about it! Forward this email to them and you will get ten bonus* points. (*Bonus points good for nothing.)"
Want to know more? Click back here later in the month for an interview with Orlando Sketch Fest and Night of the Nightwolf star Michael Poley. In the interim, get your submissions in.
But wait there's more! Orlando Sketch Fest has other projects in the works as well. The first of which is The Bad Film Appreciation Society. This monthly film series is going to debut on October 2nd at the Neon Forest Gallery on Orange Ave. "The films that we will be showing will be very special. These are films where the artists clearly intended something greater and more ambitious than their finished work." says Poley. The first film to be shown at the debut event is Hausu. Poley explains, "Its a Japanese horror film from 1977. But calling it a horror-film is almost too limiting. Nobuhiko Obayahshi, the film's director, was entirely a commercial director, and Hausu is his first feature." The second film to be shown will be announced at Orlando Sketch Fest.
And if you act now, you'll also get Orlando Sketch Fest's partner, the Orlando Improv Festival. This new Orlando event will be at The Winter Park Playhouse September 20th and 21st from 5p to midnight, featuring 12 shows by troupes from Seattle, Atlanta, Boston, Austin, TX, Sarasota and Orlando with the midnight shows being a "jam session" for all of the troupes. Tickets will range from $5 - $7 per show at the door, or for $60 you can purchase an All Access Pass online, which guarantees you a seat at all 12 shows in the festival.
All this makes for a fun fall in Orlando. If you have a show or event coming up, let me know!
