Will Arnett of 'Arrested Development' joins new space-based comedy 'Space Invader'

Will Arnett is going to space, which has nothing to do with the puppet in this picture.

Will Arnett is one of our favorite comedic actors working today, so when we get news like the news we've got below (follow that?), we get excited: Arnett's signed on to star in "Space Invader", which has one of the funniest-sounding plotlines we've heard in awhile.  Keeping in mind that comedy is subjective, keep reading for the details, my gentle Examiner readers...

Will Arnett has signed on for a role in the Justin Theroux-penned comedy "Space Invader".  You'll remember Arnett from his glorious role as Gob on "Arrested Development" and Theroux as one of the dudes that wrote "Iron Man 2".  Sounds like a solid combination of talent to us.  Here's the plotline:

Will Arnett is attached to star in a sci-fi romantic comedy [Ed.- that's a genre now?] for Fox. “Space Invader” is a new script from Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder, upcoming Iron Man 2) that finds Arnett as an astronaut who goes into space with the sole purpose of confronting another astronaut who he suspects is sleeping with his girlfriend.

That, my friends, sounds funny.  The above is from a Sci-Fi Squad article about the film, but that report apparently originated from the announcement in The Hollywood Reporter.  Here's what they had to say:

Davis Entertainment, the production company behind comedies like "The Heartbreak Kid," is on board to produce with Principato/Young. The project originally was set up at Fox Atomic before migrating to big Fox after the shuttering of that division.

So, in other words, Sci-Fi Squad already mentioned everything that was interesting in their article.  Slick moves, Sci-Fi Squad: in the future, we'll just take your word for it.  Stay tuned to the Comedy Examiner's Office for more news on "Space Invader" as it becomes available.  We know we'll be waiting for it.

And, while you're here, check out these other recent Comedy Examiner articles: surely there's something you'd like to read below:

"FORBES names Will Ferrell, Eddie Murphy two of "the most overpaid actors" in Hollywood"-- in which we look at the Forbes list (should that be all-capitals?) that named two down and out comics on their "most overpaid" list.  You mean "Meet Dave" and "Land of The Lost" weren't hits?  What?!

"South Park" takes on minorities, public urination, and waterparks in its 13th season finale (with video)"-- in which we review the "South Park" season finale and offer up video of one of the most gleefully offensive songs in the series' history.  Click the link, feel your jaw drop.

"Eddie Murphy's next film? "The Misadventures of Fluffy" (you read that right)"-- in which we learn what project Eddie Murphy's lined up and you'll be avoiding probably next summer.  Click the link for your warning.

"Michael Moore's comedic documentary "Capitalism" gets snubbed for Oscar love"-- in which we look at the news that Moore's latest doc, "Capitalism: A Love Story", is getting shut out at this year's Oscars.
