'The Office' star John Krasinski may be your 'Captain America' (with photos)

Who will be your Captain America?  Maybe a dude from "The Office".  Or "Gossip Girl".

Marvel's working hard to get Joe Johnston's "Captain America" up and running, and for awhile now the director's been telling anyone that would listen that he'd be casting an unknown in the role of Steve Rogers (that's Captain America to you, buddy).  Now, however, a list has leaked out that indicates that "unknown" may be a bit of a relative term when Johnston's involved-- seeing as how Jim Halpert himself, John Krasinski-- is at the top of the list.  Read on for the details, my gentle Examiner readers...

Today, word leaked out (thanks to Deadline Hollywood) that "The Office" star John Krasinski is at the top of director Joe Johnston's list to play Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) in the upcoming comic adaptation "Captain America".  That's him below this pargraph.  Ain't he cute?

But he's not the only one on the list.  Who else is Johnston looking at placing in the red and blue spandex of Cap?  Well, the majority of the guys aren't nearly as well known as Krasinski, whose spot on "The Office" is still what he's best-known for despite some solid contributions to the world of film (his work in "Away We Go" rocked).  Here's who else is up for the role:

That's Chace Crawford, most well-known for his work on "Gossip Girl".  That sound you hear is me gagging.  The ladies are sure to enjoy this choice, but nothing I've ever heard about "Gossip Girl" would lead me to believe that someone starring on the show would be ready to carry a big-ass franchise like "Captain America".  Let's move on.

That's Scott Porter, starring on the recently-cancelled "Friday Night Lights".  That's why he's holding a football, in case you were wondering.  Don't know anything about this guy, "FNL", or his resume, so I'm gonna have to assume that Johnston sees something in him.  Let's take a look at the next dude:

Aaand that's Mike Vogel, who you might remember from such films as "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Cloverfield", where he fought some giant monster and audience apathy.  Besides Krasinski, I'm going to give this guy my vote over the "Gossip Girl" or "Friday Night Lights" dude, just 'cause I think he looks more like a superhero-type.  And I say that in a totally hetero way, not that there's anything wrong with the alternative.

Here's what they're saying about the situation over at SlashFilm.com:

In addition to John Krasinski, Scott Porter (Speed Racer, Friday Night Lights, Caprica), Mike Vogel (She’s Out of My League, Cloverfield) Michael Cassidy (Smallville) and Patrick Flueger (Brothers, The 4400) are the core crowd right now. Also possible are Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) and Garret Hedlund (Tron Legacy), but the former hasn’t made a deal to screen test and THR reports the latter is off the list as his people can’t come together on a deal with Marvel

Um...no.  Let's look at this Patrick Flueger guy and see if he's a better choice:

Hmm.  Slightly better.  Well, now that we know this is who's made the list, what do you guys think?  Who would you like to see as your Captain America?  Sound off in the comments section below, folks: we wanna hear what you have to say about this one!  Stand by for further news on this situation as it develops: assuming Krasinski gets the role, that keeps it in the Comedy Examiner's "Comedy Jurisdiction", so stay tuned.
