Is Mike Myers going to voice a "Marvin The Martian" movie?
The long-standing joke is that Hollywood's out of ideas. Luckily, Hollywood's far from being out of cartoons to turn into poorly-written films (witness the recent trailer for the "Marmaduke" movie). The latest cartoon-to-movie headed our way? A "Marvin The Martian" movie. But, wait, there's more: Mike Myers may be headlining the flick. All we know is down below, my gentle Examiner readers...
The L.A. Times is reporting that a "Marvin The Martian" movie is headed to theaters. You know Marvin The Martian-- he's in the picture on the right for those of you that are forgetting your "Looney Tunes"-- but what's the deal with the movie, and who's going to voice the odd little cartoon anti-hero?
Here's what they're saying:
The Looney Tunes character is getting his own movie -- and now that movie has a director and writers, and could soon even have a star to lend Marvin his voice. Warner Bros. and producer Alcon Entertainment are bringing aboard a director named Alex Zamm to oversee the misadventures of the cartoon alien.
And the producers are talking to a number of stars. One name that's come up is Mike Myers, no stranger to voice roles given his work on the Shrek franchise. The plot for "Marvin" will remain what it was when it was first announced in the summer of 2008: Marvin comes to Earth to try to destroy Christmas, but his plans are foiled when he gets trapped inside a gift box.
So, a Christmas-themed "Marvin The Martian" movie starring Mike Myers is going to be made by Warner Brothers. That's what the L.A. Times is telling you. You're either really excited about this, or you're 99.8% of the rest of the population. Before you decide to align yourself with the "Excited" camp, let us remind you of this:

Following the disastrous performance of "The Love Guru" at the box office, Mike Myers' career has been in decline. He's continued to voice "Shrek" in the various sequels and TV specials starring that character, but besides that only a cameo appearance in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" has been keeping him busy lately. While we may not be excited about a "Marvin The Martian" film, we are excited that Myers will be distracted from the prospects of making another "Austin Powers" or "Love Guru" flick. See, folks? The glass really is half-full.
Stay tuned for more on this project as it becomes available. You can also check out some of our other recent articles, helpfully linked right below this paragraph. Vomit on a stick shoved down the throat of the American public because Mike Myers is attached. Does Cat in the Hat rings a bell? The Love Guru? And now Marvin? At Christmas? I'm sorry this is all wrong.
