Top 10 comedians from Boston

Boston is considered one of major markets for stand-up comedy in the country. During the comedy boom of the 1980s and early 90s, Boston was one of the leading comedy hubs, along with New York and Los Angeles, and turned out some of the top stand-ups of all time.

Boston is still turning out top notch comedians, many with national headlining potential. With new talent and new clubs, the scene is as interesting as it has been in years.

Recently Boston based comedian David DiLorenzo created a website and comedy series called The Boston Comedy Legends Series. Whenever you start throwing the word legend around, everyone has an opinion as to who is the top legend of all time.

These are what I consider to be the best comics to come out of the Boston comedy scene. The criteria for making this list are simple. Are you from Boston and are you funny?

Humor differs for everyone so not everyone is going to agree with this list. Feel free to suggest your own.

1) Steven Wright
2) Denis Leary
3) Jay Leno
4) Louis C.K.
5) Dane Cook
6) Bill Burr
7) Lenny Clarke
8) Conan O’Brien
9) John Pinette
10) Doug Stanhope

Honorable mention: Robert Kelly, Mike Birbiglia, Gary Gulman, Nick DiPaolo, Mario Cantone, Dana Gould, Don Gavin, Dick Doherty

Where's Sweeney and Gavin? Good list but these guys should absolutely be on it. Nick Depaolo also deserves more than an honorable mention. Expand that list to the top 25...too many great comedians from Boston.
