CSU volleyball has already played two matches today, and it’s not even supper time in the Mountain Time zone.

The Rams are in Gainesville, Florida playing in the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational, and they’re 2-0 so far.

CSU started the day’s action at 8:00 a.m. MT as the Rams faced and swept Bowling Green in three identically scoring sets (25-20, 25-20, and 25-20). Senior Jacque Davisson was the player of the match, killing 12 of 27 attacks (.333 percent) and she had seven digs as well.

In the Rams (5-0) second match of the day, they swept Albany (2-3) 26-16, 25-22 and 25-13. In the last set of the match, CSU jumped out to an insurmountable 7-1 lead and finished off the Great Danes in three straight sets.

For CSU, it was the fourth sweep of an opponent in five wins, and they’ve only lost one set all year in the opening match against Duke.

Up next for Rams volleyball is the Florida Gators, who are No. 6 in the nation currently. The Gators have already beaten No. 9 Iowa State (3-1) and No. 2 Nebraska (3-2) and they probably want to add CSU to the list of ranked teams they’ve overcome in 2010. But this game is even more important for the Rams, as this would mark the first ranked team they’ve beaten, and it would continue their winning streak.

If CSU can find a way to win against Florida in their home arena, it would easily be the Rams biggest win of the season so far and possibly in all of 2010. Plus, it would boost CSU’s ranking into likely the top-10.

The Rams take on the Gators at 1:30 p.m. MT and it will be broadcast on Gametracker on CSURams.com.
