Whether it is a gripe about your meal plan or new roommate, the collegiate experience various for each student. Many will go on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree; some will attend graduate school. At Arkansas State University you can shed your shell by attending campus sponsored events. Instead of eating in your room have your meal in the café and visit the student union between classes. Joining campus clubs and organizations is not only a great way to meet people and make friends but also to get involved and be heard. While you are getting involved remember to show some school spirit by attending a football or basketball game.
In your quest to make friends do not forget you are in college to get an education. Visit the library often and keep those study skills polished. You can view your academic success as a way to enhance your social life. As long as you keep your grades up, you can remain in college and continue making connections.
Do not be afraid to utilize campus resources such as the counseling center, academic advising services, career services, and financial aid to name a few. Remember the staff and faculty are there to aid you in your journey; build relationships with them. Lastly make all decision wisely; you don’t have to have all the answers on your first day of classes.
