College wrestling is described as a solitary sport... but here are some examples that demonstrate a spirit of teamwork to step in and get a job done.
Cleveland State lends muscle to theater event: The Cleveland State University wrestling team will provide a helping hand in the Cleveland Public Theatre’s "Pandemonium 09: Forbidden Knowledge" event on Saturday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m.
The event, featuring theatre, dance, visual and performance artists, will also include food and drinks.
The wrestling team will be helping out during set up of the event, including putting up tables and tents as well as doing some extra heavy lifting. This is the second straight year that the Vikings have helped out with the theatre’s annual benefit.
"We really enjoyed helping out last year," Vikings head coach Ben Stehura said. "The theatre is great for Cleveland and provided our guys with an opportunity to help out a terrific event."
The Cleveland Public Theatre was founded in 1981 and is one of Cleveland’s leading stages for experimental theater. Tickets for the Pandemonium event are $125. For more information, contact Judith Ross at (216) 631-2727 ext. 211.
Gardner-Webb hosts "Run for the Son": The Gardner-Webb University wrestling team, in partnership with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is pleased to announce its first-ever "GWU Wrestlers Run for the Son" charity fundraising event which will take place on Saturday, October 3 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
In this special fundraising opportunity open to everyone, each GWU wrestling team member will run as many laps around the track in Spangler Stadium at Gardner-Webb University as he can in one hour.
The GWU wrestling team is looking for sponsors for each wrestler. These sponsorships can be a specified amount per lap, or simply a one-time donation.
The Bulldog wrestling program will donate half of all proceeds directly to the campus of Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization. All donations are tax deductible and will include the option of a membership into the Bulldog Club for the amount donated.
"We are really excited about this event. It is the first time we have done anything like this, and it gives us the opportunity to help out our campus FCA group," commented Assistant Coach Daniel Elliott. "We will be able to give back to the University in the Christian realm, and also help out our fellow athletes in the FCA.
This gives us the opportunity to use our position as a college athletics team to work within the community with something other than wrestling. It should be a very good event for everyone involved."
The "GWU Wrestlers Run for the Son" event will take place at the Gardner-Webb Football Center on the morning of Saturday, October 3rd, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Refreshments and a cookout for all participants and supporters will immediately follow the conclusion of the one-hour run.
For more information, contact Assistant Coach Daniel Elliott at (704) 406-2139.
