In his brief life and battle with cancer, Adam Frey touched countless lives.
The 23-year-old Frey, who passed away Saturday after a 21-month battle with cancer, is being remembered by those at the two schools where he developed his wrestling career: Blair Academy, and Cornell University.
In an article for the Lehigh Valley Live website, writer Keith Gary recounts some the high points of Adam Frey's mat career at Blair Academy:
Frey won just about every conceivable wrestling title during a brilliant prep career. Beast of the East, Christmas City Tournament, a pair of national prep titles as well as a NHSCA National Championship to go with numerous other freestyle and Greco-Roman titles.
Gary's article also incorporates quotes from Blair's long-time head coach, Jeff Buxton, who was with Adam Frey early last week.
"He's a special human being and he handled a lot of pain," said Buxton. "He couldn't communicate well because of the ventilator but he could understand what we were saying and you could see the pain in his eyes."
Cornell has posted a tribute to Frey at its wrestling website. The article highlights his on-the-mat accomplishments at Blair Academy, and as a Big Red wrestler... but, even more movingly, describes all that he did after being diagnosed with cancer in March 2008, including his ongoing reports at his website.
