In an InterMat article about this Saturday's Northeast Duals, senior writer Andrew Hipps sums up the significance of the tournament in its opening:

It's hard not to get excited about this year's Journeymen/ASICS Northeast Collegiate Duals, an event set to take place at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York on Saturday, November 28.

This year's event will feature seven teams ranked in InterMat's Top 25, an individual NCAA champion, 11 All-Americans, 41 ranked wrestlers, and representation from nine of the 11 Division I wrestling conferences. In addition, UFC legend Randy Couture will be on hand for a VIP party, grappling clinic, and a meet-and-greet session.

The Northeast Duals is a product of Frank Popolizio, who is also tournament organizer for last weekend's Sprawl & Brawl event.

In just six years, the Journeymen/ASICS Northeast Collegiate Duals event has grown from a four-team local showcase event that drew just 300 fans, into a 16-team premier early-season, dual-meet event that attracts many of the nation's top collegiate wrestling programs from all parts of the country, not just the northeast. Among the participating schools: American University, Binghamton, Central Michigan, Lehigh, Maryland, Nebraska, Northern Colorado and Virginia.
