The University of Illinois, ranked 21st in the nation, scored an upset by edging No. 13 Wisconsin, 19-18, Sunday at Huff Hall in Champaign, Illinois.
Each team won five bouts. The winning edge: the Fighting Illini scored one more bonus point than the Badgers. Illinois' matmen earned extra points, thanks to major decisions by Ryan Prater and Jordan Blanton at 141 and 174 pounds, respectively, and Clint Arlis' technical fall win at 157 pounds. Wisconsin got bonus points from Andrew Howe's major decision at 165, and a tech fall by Tyler Graff at 133.
In the past dozen dual meets, llinois has defeated Wisconsin 11 times, and tied once. With the win, the Illini are now 8-6 overall, 3-3 in the Big Ten.
