Maryland welcomes Sinnott and Byrne to coaching staff

The University of Maryland's wrestling coaching staff now has a Brandon... and a Brendan.

In an email sent Tuesday, August 25, head coach Kerry McCoy announced that the Terps had hired Brandon Sinott as a second assistant coach... and Brendan Byrne as a volunteer assistant.

Sinnott, a 2008 graduate of Central Michigan University, was a two-time NCAA All-American for the Chippewas, wrestling at 174 pounds. He recently finished 6th at the 2009 US Senior Freestyle nationals.

Byrne graduated from Maryland in May. He was a team captain, won an ACC championship and qualified for the NCAA tournament last season.

In his email, McCoy said, " I am very excited to have these two guys join the staff and I am looking forward to working with them."

Sinnott and Byrne replace

Jason Powell, who had been an assistant at Maryland, and is returning to his alma mater, the University of Nebraska, and James Yonushonis, former volunteer assistant, who is moving to Ohio to be with his new wife, who is an assistant coach at Ohio State. According to McCoy, "Yonushonis will continue to train towards the 2012 Olympics and plans to return to the College Park campus a few times during the year to train. We wish them both the best and will miss them a lot."
