On Tuesday, the 2009 Midlands Tournament begins... and all eyes will be on the action at Welsh-Ryan Arena at Northwestern University just outside Chicago.
To help college wrestling fans prepare for the 47th edition of this post-Christmas classic, the Big Ten Network has asked Andrew Hipps, senior writer for the amateur wrestling website InterMat, to provide a weight-by-weight preview.
The 2009 Midlands will feature four of the nation's top seven teams, three NCAA individual champions, eight wrestlers who have reached the NCAA finals, and nearly 30 All-Americans.
The Big Ten Network will broadcast the Midlands on a tape-delay basis on Sunday, January 3 at 6 pm Central. The broadcast team features veteran wrestling commentators Tim Johnson and Jim Gibbons, along with Jake Herbert, two-time NCAA champ for Northwestern, 2009 Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year, and 2009 Dan Hodge Trophy winner.
