Brock Lesnar's recent medical emergency may have been a year in the making.
“He had a hole in his intestine,” according to Dana White, UFC president. “The (stuff) was leaking into his stomach. That’s what was causing him so much pain. That and he had abscesses."
“The doctor told him he hasn’t been right for a year. His immune system has been trying to fight this thing and that’s why he was susceptible to getting sick.”
Lesnar's health issues first became public about a month ago, when he withdrew from a much-anticipated UFC heavyweight title defense against Shane Carwin that was originally scheduled for this weekend in Las Vegas. The reason given at the time was mononucleosis. However, in the past two weeks, Lesnar's medical situation became much more serious. The 2000 NCAA heavyweight champ had collapsed in Canada, was hospitalized in North Dakota, had surgery, and was released to his home in Alexandria, Minnesota.
White said that Lesnar plans to visit Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota early next week.
