Adam Frey, Cornell University wrestler battling
cancer
Adam Frey continues to battle cancer... and the wrestling community continues to lend its support.
There will be fundraiser event -- featuring an instructional clinic and exhibition matches -- for the Cornell University wrestler on Saturday, January 15, 2009 at Canon McMillan High School in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, south of Pittsburgh. Doors open at noon.
Clinic: The first part of the day will be a clinic put on by the WPIAL's own NCAA champions, starting at 12:30 p.m. Among the wrestlers who are scheduled as clinicians include: Greg Jones of West Virginia University, Robbie Waller and Teague Moore of the University of Oklahoma, and Lehigh champ Troy Letters. This will be a hands-on clinic for the youngsters with the mats open for workouts and to drill technique. Participants should bring workout gear.
Exhibition matches: At 4:30 p.m., there will be exhibition matches featuring some of the finest recent collegiate wrestlers originally from the WPIAL. Among some of the wrestlers who plan to participate: Carl DeCantis (University of Pittsburgh), Troy Dolan (University of Missouri), James Fleming (Clarion University), Eric Fulmer (Mercyhurst), Ethan Headlee (Pitt), Jay Ivanco (Clarion), Dane Johnson (Pitt), Colin Johnston (West Virginia), Brian Letters (Maryland), Ian McLaughlin (University of North Carolina), Nick Nelson (University of Virginia), Ash Primus (Notre Dame College), Matt Ryan (West Virginia), Mike Salopek (Virginia), Josh & Jordan Shields (Mercyhurst), Ryan Sula (Duquesne), Joe Waltko (Clarion), Rob Waltko (Bucknell), Shane Welsh (Lehigh), and Anthony Zanetta (Pitt).
In addition, there will be t-shirts for sale, Chinese auctions, and silent auction with great gifts.
Admission for the whole day -- clinic and wrestling exhibition event -- is just $30. Admission for just the wrestling exhibition only is $15.
