Former NCAA heavyweight champ and 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler Kurt Angle was cleared of all charges stemming from a domestic dispute this summer with his former girlfriend.
Charges of assault and harassment were dismissed in a Pittsburgh area court on Tuesday.
District Judge Mary Murray of Coraopolis dismissed the remaining charges after a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon. Angle had been cleared of other charges in a hearing in mid-September, including charges of violating a protection from abuse order, driving with a suspended license, and possession of HGH (human growth hormone).
Angle was charged after a confrontation August 15 with Trenesha Biggers at his Moon home. He was arrested in a parking lot in Robinson outside a supermarket where Biggers told police she fled after the alleged assault.
Yesterday, Biggers withdrew her request for protection from abuse order against Angle, and a judge ordered them to have no contact with each other.
Kurt Angle won the gold medal in 100 kg freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Before that, he was a two-time NCAA Division I champ at Clarion University in Pennsylvania, winning the college heavyweight title in 1990 and 1992. He was voted one of fifteen all-time greatest college wrestlers in an online poll of fans for the 75th anniversary of the NCAA wrestling championships in 2005.
