When you come to college, getting fit will be a great priority if you didn't do so during school break. You will try to make friends, get work done done, and get acclimated to your campus; it is harder to start working out and getting in shape once you are in the dorms.

A push-up is the most basic exercise that most people can accomplish. Watching television is also a huge past-time (4.5 hours per day per household). If you plan on spending your nights watching Comedy Central or NBC, why not use the time to get some exercise?

The push-up television workout is successful because:

  • A push-up burns .6 to 1 calorie per pushup.
  • Many push-ups can be done in a little bit of time.
  • The more push-ups you can do, the stronger you get.
  • More muscle mass = less fat = much healthier.

You don't want to miss out on your television shows sweating and panting on the floor, so the workout requires that you do as many push-ups as possible during one commercial. Commercials are 30 seconds, so your goal is to do as many as possible. Keep doing push-ups during different commercial times, and try to complete at least 10-15 sets in one day.

That sounds like a lot, but if you do fifteen 30-second sets, you will have only worked out for 7.5 minutes. Plus, if you average 8 push-ups 15 times, you will have done 120 push-ups. Congratulations! You are getting healthier every day with only seven minutes of work.

During the Summer, try to do more push-ups per commercial. Try to add more sets. Do the same thing when watching shows over the internet. Set a goal you want to reach before you go to college. 200 push-ups? 300 push-ups? 500?

Another reason to like this workout is that you can do it once you get to school. You may not have time for the gym, or time to jog around campus. But if you are wasting 30 seconds of your time watching a Sham-wow commercial in your dorm, you will also have one of the most healthiest 30 seconds any student can have.
