EA Sports announced this morning that it will continue launching Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Online later this month, as originally planned. EA Sports President, Peter Moore, announced on his blog that the game has been tested extensively, is highly innovative, and fully developed. Moore justified the company's reasoning by emphasizing the fact that the game is about Tiger's athletic - rather than sexual - prowess.
So many golfers have grown up playing Tiger Woods video games, and it would certainly be a significant loss to these individuals if the game was discontinued as a result of his personal transgressions. For these golfers, Tiger Woods had already made a strong and lasting impression. It will be interesting to see how kids who have not played the game or are relatively new to it may react if they receive their first Tiger Woods video game as a birthday or Christmas present.
As of 3:02 PM EST, Electronic Arts' (ERTS) stock was up 2.87 percent to 18.67 for the day. The rise in stock price communicates a degree of consumer confidence in the company's decision concerning the game that was announced earlier this morning.
