It's official: Claremont Mudd Scripps' Tain Lee is the wire-to-wire champion of the Division III NCAA Men's 2010 Golf Championships. Lee fired a 2-under 70 to win the event by three strokes over University of La Verne's Mitchell Fedorka.
Lee slept on the lead for three consecutive nights, faced a red-hot round posted early in the day by Centre College's Chris Morris, and an equally impressive round being played in the afternoon by Fedorka. Lee never seemed to blink. Whenever Lee made a mistake - like when he made a double bogey on the fourth hole in his third round or when he opened with a bogey on the easy par-5 first in his final round - he fought back like the champion that he eventually became. Today, Lee rattled off three birdies and four pars in the seven holes following his opening bogey. Lee made sure to counter the three bogeys he made on his closing nine with three birdies - including one that came on the 18th despite only needing a bogey to seal the deal.
The rounds of the day belonged to University of La Verne's Fedorka and Centre College's Chris Morris, who both shot 5-under-par rounds of 67. Guilford College's Peter Latimer and Transylvania University's Hunter Frazier recorded 4-under-par rounds of 68, but they did not threaten Lee down the stretch.
