Five tips for your scholarship search

Folders can help organize your scholarship search.
Use folders to stay organized.

In our last article, we listed websites with scholarship search databases to assist you in finding funding for your college education. The money is there, waiting for your scholarship application. But searching for scholarship for which you’re eligible can be time consuming. Filling out applications can be frustrating when you don’t have all of the information on hand.

With that in mind, here are five tips to help you find scholarships and win them while saving time in the process.

  1. Get a new email address and use it solely for you scholarship applications. There are plenty of places where you can get free email accounts such as Google or Hotmail. Visiting some scholarship websites will result in spam, so you can manage it better with a new account.
  2. Schedule a set amount of time per week to work on your scholarship search. Whether it’s 5, 10, or 20 hours per week, getting into a routine will help get those applications out the door.
  3. Have folders on hand in which you can put copies of applications that you print out. You can also have a folder for scholarships to check out later. By staying organized, you’ll be more efficient with your time.
  4. Have a bio sheet on hand. List your accomplishments and awards so you can list them on applications quickly. You can also list classes you took in high school and your GPA. Also list your extracurricular activities. Your financial information will be needed for need-based scholarships.
  5. Set up bookmark folders with your web browser. This way, you can bookmark sites that interest you, and you won’t have to waste time trying to figure out where that neat website was.

We hope these tips help you to find the scholarships that will fully fund your college education.
