Twas the night before deadline and all through the land,
applications had taken much longer than planned.
Seniors were finishing their essays with care,
In the hopes that admission soon would be theirs.
Awards had been listed and so were the clubs;
Dad had looked it all over to catch any flubs.
Now the Common App was finished and state schools as well,
But as for who wanted which test scores, they still couldn’t tell.
Students had done what their counselors had said.
Essays were rechecked – and even proofread!
Their recs were all written, the transcripts done too.
Thank you notes given - and even gifts to a few.
With mom’s Visa in hand, they got ready to pay,
The time was now here, there’d be no more delays.
Months of work and worry had finally come to an end
All that remained was to hit the button and send.
As the clock struck midnight, they texted their friends.
I did it! I’m finished. Don’t wake me till ten.
And so to you seniors, and counselors too,
You’ve done a great job. Happy New Year to you!
