Breaking College Baseball Coaching News

The Long Beach State Dirtbags brought Troy Buckley home after a two-year stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

According to Kendall Rogers on Rivals.com, the Dirtbags convinced the former assistant to return to the program to take over the pitching staff at Long Beach State.

Buckley was serving a three-year commitment to the Pirates as the minor league pitching coordinator but is moving back to California after only two years.

What do ya know? The Pirates can't even keep minor league coaches within the organization.

Also, in coaching news, North Florida also made a dual statement this afternoon, announcing the retirement of long-time coach Dusty Rhodes at the end of the upcoming season and the hiring of Smoke Laval as the coach-in-waiting to replace Rhodes.

Laval took over the LSU program after Skip Bertman decided to retire but had little to no success. Still, his work ethic and track record outside Baton Rouge will benefit UNF.

Rhodes will retire after his 23rd season with the program.
