Being bored with the familiarity of Mill Avenue, many college students head down to the corner of Rio Salado and McClintock to check out the Tempe Marketplace. The Marketplace is basically and outdoor mall, equipped with Harkins theater, tons of restaurants and bars and many other places that will suck money right out of your pockets.
Cadillac Ranch is located in the middle of it all (actually, it overlooks the madness). On any given Friday or Saturday night Arizona State students make up the majority of the line waiting to get in to Cadillac. On a night like this it seems like the hot spot of the Tempe Marketplace.
Cadillac Ranch is huge. Its great if you have a big party or are meeting a lot of friends, as everyone can mix and mingle all over the place. There is a pretty big dance floor for when you feel drunk enough to let loose (though the music is a bit cheesy). The best thing about Cadillac Ranch at night is the mechanical bull. As the night gulps forward, this activity becomes increasingly popular/ amusing. Who can resist watching unassuming, smiling girls get tossed off; though I’ve seen some do awesome! They must go a bit rougher on the guys, they never seem to last too long.
Most people go to Cadillac on weekend nights. But if you are around the Marketplace during the week or in the afternoon, Cadillac Ranch actually has some very decent drink specials. It’s perfect for keeping that money in your pockets; so you can use it for books of course. Tuesday to Thursday Happy Hour runs from 2pm-7pm and Friday to Sunday from 4pm-7pm. Finding specials that start at 2pm is pretty great; specials on the weekend are even better! Cadillac’s Happy Hour features $2 domestic drafts, $3 crafts, $3 select frozen drinks, $3 wells, $3 oak wines by the glass, and $5 specialty martinis.
Many college students check out Cadillac Ranch on weekends to mingle, get their dance on and perhaps get thrown off a bull, but the Happy Hour is worth it all week.
