Tom Brady collectors were also winners in Super Bowl XLIV

After a month of listening to hype from football analysts and fans alike about Peyton Manning being the best quarterback of the decade, if not all-time, many of the buffoons calling themselves football experts will have to explain why they deserve to be called such. The people who heaped that praise in public on the Indianapolis Colts’ QB will have to rethink those expressions of adoration.

Last night’s win by the New Orleans Saints over what some tried to say was the “Greatest Team of the Decade” (did some people actually pick them over the Patriots?), 31-17, was beautiful music to New England Patriot fans that none of the music acts in Super Bowl XLIV were able to come close to.

Brady memorabilia has been long sought and very well valued by collectors, but Manning’s collectibles actually outsell Brady in many places and not just in Indy. Seriously, Manning IS an outstanding, talented, and clutch quarterback, but it has always been said that "greatest" should be bestowed upon those who attain the highest achievements. Manning has won just one Super Bowl in two tries to Brady’s three for four. However when one listens too many of the hundreds of ESPN commentators (it seems like they hire that many ex-players) and national football writers, Brady is mentioned only as an after thought, especially after this past season.  Those will also argue that his four MVP awards qualify him for that honor.  When did Super Bowl Champion take second fiddle to MVP?

Manning did a lot for Brady and Patriot collectibles last night by failing to lead the Colts back late in the game and then by throwing a game killer interception. You could almost hear the value of his stock drop, while Brady’s rose in silence in the background. However any talk of him being a choker is uncalled for and undeserved.

Peyton should pull a David Letterman, whom some have said had the top ad last night by sitting with rival Jay Leno on the same couch, by inviting Brady to do one of his many commercials. This would be similar to the way Larry Bird and Michael Jordan created classic ads over 20 years ago that are still remembered and acknowledged as recently as last night. Instead of Oprah between them, Drew Brees should be invited to participate.

    Using that logic then:
    Mark Rypien > Dan Marino
    Trent Dilfer > Jim Kelly
    Terry Bradshaw > Tom Brady

    Really?
