Stumptown Coffee Roasters is a delicious independent coffee roaster in Portland, Seattle and New York.
Up until early 2008, I lived in Chicago and then moved back home to Yakima, WA. I hadn't heard of Stumptown until mid-2009 when I discovered a new coffee house called Northtown Coffee. One of their signs said "now serving Stumptown." Ah, the discovery that lay ahead.
I don't know which type I tried, but it was more than good, it was unforgettable. I then moved to the Portland, OR area. There are several Stumptown Coffee Shops in the area as well as in Seattle, WA and one in NYC at the Ace Hotel Cafe.
Within these Stumptown locations, coffee goers are in for a real surprise as there are so many delicious varietals to choose from. As Stumptown mentions on its Web site:
"Varietals have a profound impact on the cup profile of each coffee on our menu in the same way that wine grapes impact the flavor profile of vineyards across the globe."
Some Stumptown Varietals Include:
- Bourbon, which is "known for its complex acidity and tremendous balance." Two of the coffees they package with bourbon are Decaf Honduras Finca El Puente and Guatemala La Concepcion Buenavista among others.
- Jember, which have "distinct sugar browning notes of caramel, maple syrup and brown sugar itself." They package this varietal with Indonesia Gajah Aceh.
